Program Notes: WENDELL BEAVERS’ solo 'Seeds and Branches' slides, oscillates, suspends, compresses, ripples, rises, falls again, and locomotives through limitless topographies. This work evokes evolutionary memory, kinesthetically induced dreamstates, and a uniquely post-modern, pre-millennial brand of earthbound shamanism.

Seeds and Branches — Everyman Solo (1999)

July 11, 1999
American Dance Festival, Reynolds Theater, Durham, NC

Soft Flesh meets soft liquid motion with subtle dynamic shifts. The gentle intensity of Mr. Beavers’ concentration is compelling.
— Jennifer Dunning, New York Times
I’ve never seen anybody move the way Wendell Beavers does in his solo ‘Seeds and Branches’. This is a body in tune with nature. Lunging deep, he puts his ear to the ground. Then he works that position, fluidly adjusting his head, or one shoulder, or the angle of his knee, or the forearm that helps support him. He looks as if he’s trying to creep into another creatures skin, unhurriedly, sensing every slight move.
